A man has been convicted of killing a teenage passenger in his car after he lost control at speeds over 100mph.
Josh Buchan caused Ben Taylor’s death after losing control of his Audi RS3 on the B9077 in Aberdeen on September 25, 2022.
He was driving at speeds of up to 108mph when he lost control.
19-year-old Mr Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene, while Buchan and another passenger suffered minor injuries.
Police ScotlandBuchan pled guilty to causing Mr Taylor’s death and to a separate charge of culpable and reckless conduct relating to him driving at 124mph on an earlier date.
Sergeant Lesley Morrison, Roads Policing, said: “Our thoughts remain with Ben’s family and we hope they can find some comfort following this conviction.
“Buchan’s actions displayed an utter disregard for other road users and his passengers and he will now face the consequences. His actions highlight the devastating impact dangerous driving can have on lives and families.
“We remain committed to investigating all dangerous driving and will use all the tools at our disposal to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.”
Following his death, Mr Taylor’s employers Cargo Carrier Solutions said the world would be “an empty place” without the teenager’s “big smile and laughter”.
