A Stonehaven dance group have been crowned world champions.
After putting their best foot forward at the World Street Dance Championships in Blackpool, the northeast crew Rhythm Nation have secured the top title.
They were up against talent from all around the world and for some this was their first major competition, the youngest competitor only being four-years-old.
There were some nerves all round before competing but after winning the title, the dancers are buzzing with excitement.
The dancers said it was it was “exciting” and that winning was a “fun feeling”.
They also added that despite being successful, that it was “the most difficult times we’ve competed” due to the amount of international talent the dancers were up against.
Rhythm Nation came back with over 20 trophies, making it they’re most successful year to date.
Their coach Natasha said “Before covid we weren’t the most experienced at all, we did alright but now most of the time were walking away with Scottish Champions.”
“They’re just amazing”.
The team only started in 2019 which started off in school gym halls and moving to zoom during lockdown.
Due to restrictions and the increase of dancers, Natasha felt that her dancers needed more room to train. She finally managed to find a studio in Stonehaven where she has been coaching Rhythm nation since 2021.
However, this came after a yearlong dispute with the council in proving the space was suitable for a dance studio.
“We put it to the council, and they declined it to start with, which meant we had a yearlong journey fighting the council.”
This bump in the road did not stop the group dancing their way to the top.
The dance crew have previously won the title last year and are optimistic to continue their winning ways.
