A Scotland fan secured the ultimate away result in Boston after getting engaged to his girlfriend during World Cup celebrations.
Jamie Stewart, 28, popped the question to his girlfriend Isla Galbraith, 25, in the James P. Kelleher Rose Garden in the US city on Monday after the national side’s win over Haiti.
Dundee painter Jamie spent weeks plotting the dream proposal with the help of Isla’s dad Stephen, 58, and brother Mac, 21, who were tasked with hiding the ring until the big day.
He told STV News: “I had a proper time trying to get this done properly, but it got to the point where I was like, ‘I need to get the ring out my sporran.’ She was trying to grab my wallet and I was like ‘Get away from there!”

STV NewsEven when being taken to the romantic spot, Isla admitted she had no idea her partner would get down on one knee.
“I honestly could not believe it when Jamie turned to me, ‘I’ve got a question’. I went, ‘Oh God, here we go.’ I was crying my eyes out – a blubbering mess.
“I had no clue whatsoever, even when he took me to a rose garden. Everyone was like, ‘Really?’ Maybe I was too hungover to figure it out.
She added: “I’ve been giddy like a wee girl the rest of the trip. It feels amazing. I’m still calling him my boyfriend.. But he’s my fiancé!”
SuppliedThe pair have already received offers from ministers in the US to conduct the ceremony – but, while they’ve been tempted by the idea of a return trip, they are keen to tie the knot back in Scotland.
Jamie joked: “We definitely wouldn’t rule out a trip back – Dundee wedding, honeymoon in Boston.”
The couple have been soaking up the atmosphere ahead of Scotland next’s face-off with Morocco on Friday – and are hoping for another reason to celebrate.
“We’ve been overwhelmed with joy, from people who live in Boston to Scotland fans to our wee family out here,” Isla said. “Every day seems to be getting better.”
Jamie added: “It’s unbelievable to be here supporting Scotland in the World Cup. I was one when they won before, so I’ve never experienced it.
“To be here, cheering the boys on, thousands of other Scots and thousands of Americans – they love it just as much as us.”
