Teenager suffers facial injury in Broughty Ferry beach brawl involving around 100 youths

A teenager was injured and a police car vandalised during a mass brawl involving between 80 and 100 young people at a beach in Dundee.

Officers responded to reports of the disturbance in Broughty Ferry at around 6.50pm on Monday.

A 15-year-old boy suffered an injury to his face as a result and a police vehicle was damaged while officers were attempting to separate the crowd.

Police Scotland said that they are continuing enquiries as they work to identify those involved.

Information circulating on social media suggested a more serious incident had taken place, however, officers have reassured the public that these rumours are incorrect.

The force also said that patrols around the area would be stepped up in a bid to provide reassurance to residents and curb antisocial behaviour.

Chief Inspector Ross Fitzgerald said: “We want everyone to enjoy these open spaces safely. Disruptive and criminal behaviour is not acceptable. I can assure you that work is ongoing to ensure those involved are located and identified, with anyone involved in criminality being dealt with robustly and charged in respect of any criminal behaviour committed.

“The vandalism to the police vehicle now renders that resource inoperable, depriving the local community of important resources as we continue our efforts to keep our local communities safe.

“Parents are encouraged to be aware of where their children are and what they are doing in the evenings. Members of the public will see an increased police presence in the Broughty Ferry area as local officers are supported by those from national divisions, in order to provide reassurance and deter any further acts of antisocial behaviour.
