Ten charged over football-related disorder following Aberdeen v Hibs match after fireworks thrown

Ten people have been charged over football-related disorder following the Scottish Premiership match between Aberdeen and Hibernian after fireworks were thrown.

It follows reports of disturbances outside the Dons’ Pittodrie Stadium prior to the clash on Friday, November 4.

Police said officers responded to incidents in the George and Seaforth Road areas ahead of kick off, resulting in a slew of arrests.

Nine of the men, aged between 15 and 40, are due to appear in court at a later date, while another was issued with a fixed penalty notice.

A further 15-year-old was arrested in connection with being in possession of a pyrotechnic, while Aberdeen say they are also aware of “unacceptable damage” caused in the stadium’s Merkland Stand.

Officers are now warning supporters over their conduct ahead of the visit of Dundee United to Pittodrie on Saturday, November 12.

The city centre’s chief inspector, David Paterson, warned fans of a “zero tolerance” approach in relation to disorder surrounding the 6pm kick off.

Enquiries are still ongoing into the incidents surrounding the Hibs match and anyone with information or mobile phone footage is asked to contact the police.

The Dons claimed a 4-1 win over their Premiership rivals on the pitch, but off it, the actions of some fans were branded “utterly unacceptable”.

Paterson added: “Fear and alarm was caused to the local community, fireworks were thrown and a minority tainted the safe reputation our city has.

“Ahead of the Dundee United match, let me be clear – we will not tolerate any anti-social behaviour on Saturday, nor at any football match for that matter.

“We know the vast majority of fans turn up at games to support their team and enjoy themselves and we do not want that experience to be ruined by the selfishness of others. Extra officers will be in the area to support the match and I can only hope there is no repeat of last week’s inexcusable events.”
