One of autumn’s most breathtaking wildlife spectacles is unfolding in Angus.

Montrose Basin is an enclosed estuary which covers 750 hectares of tidal mudflats, offering feeding and roosting ground to a plethora of bird species.

And each year, tens of thousands of pink footed geese travel to the site after an 800 mile journey from Iceland and Greenland.

Around 20% of the world’s population roosts at the Scottish Wildlife Trust site in Angus, making it critical for international conservation.

Last year, more than 40,000 were counted.
