Three bunnies found hiding on a drilling rig in the North Sea have been returned to dry land and are settling in at a local rescue centre.
The babies were thought to have sought a “nice warm place” in an offshore container in Dundee, which was then transported to Aberdeen and loaded onto a boat bound for the Cygnus gas field, 93 miles off the Lincolnshire coast.
The container was taken onto the Valaris Norway vessel, where two of the bunnies broke free and were found running around the pipe deck.
New Arc Wildlife RescueThe crew were able to catch their new residents safely and set them up with a warm bed with fresh vegetables and water.
After being kept safe in the radio room, the pair were taken back down to the vessel to be returned by boat to Aberdeen and dropped off at New Arc Wildlife Rescue.
A third bunny, which was found hiding in a forklift pocket on the FS Aquaris after it returned to the Cygnus field, has also been safely reunited with its siblings.
The wildlife rescue centre said: “A huge thank you to the crews onboard Cygnus, Valaris Norway and the FS Aquarius – who all put maximum effort and care into ensuring these rabbits got back safely to dry land.
“All three rabbits are now doing well at our rescue centre, and eating us out of house and home.”
