A major emergency response was launched after a vessel capsized off the northeast coast throwing three people into the sea.
A passing fishing boat came across the overturned vessel off Kinneff and raised the alarm.
UPDATE: Police have confirmed one of the casualties has since died
The crew rescued one casualty and updated the Coastguard that two others were still unaccounted for.
Three RNLI lifeboats launched from Stonehaven, Montrose and Arbroath, Rescue Helicopter Bond 1 and several civilian vessels responded to the Mayday call.
A second casualty, located by a responding offshore supply vessel, was recovered by Stonehaven Lifeboat and transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by Rescue Bond 1.
The final casualty managed to swim ashore and was located by Coastguard Rescue Teams from Stonehaven and Arbroath who provided immediate casualty care before transferring them into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service at Catterline.
All casualties were delivered into the care of medical services to receive treatment.
