Posties are refusing to deliver mail to a tower block in Aberdeen after being left intimidated by two dogs in the building.
Mail addressed to some 100 residents living in Thistle Court is being redirected and residents now have to collect their parcels and letters from the Post Office on Union Street in the city centre.
Royal Mail said on Wednesday it seeks to prosecute dog owners “in criminal courts when appropriate”.
A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that deliveries to Thistle Court have been suspended due to our staff being intimidated by two dogs in the block.
“We are currently working with the local council and the police to resolve the issue. In the meantime customers can collect their mail from the Post Office on Union Street.
“Royal Mail treats any risk of dog attacks on our postmen and women very seriously, and our first priority as an employer is to ensure the welfare and safety of our people who provide a valuable service to our customers.
“It is very distressing when one of our people is attacked or worried by a dog while carrying out their job.”
Aberdeen City Council said it is working with Royal Mail to find a solution to the problem and to get postal services reinstated.
An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “The owner of the dog is a visitor to the building. The matter has been reported to Police Scotland and we have been in regular communication with Royal Mail regarding this matter to try and get services reinstated.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said “This was reported to us on Thursday, 22 April by Aberdeen City Council and suitable advice has been offered.”
