© Google Maps 2024Train services face disruption after a gas leak in Angus led to the closure of a railway line.
Scottish Gas Networks confirmed that engineers are working to repair the leak which was discovered near the track in Carnoustie, Angus, on Wednesday evening.
Links Parade was shut down by police between Station Road and Ferrier Street as a result of the leak, while two residential properties nearby were evacuated near Carnoustie Leisure Centre.
Network Rail Scotland confirmed that the line via Carnoustie will remain closed until it is safe to reopen, and a 50-metre exclusion zone is in place around the site.
ScotRail has implemented an emergency timetable for Thursday, with southbound trains starting and terminating at Dundee.
A limited replacement bus service has been confirmed at Aberdeen and Dundee, with a train ticket acceptance in place with Stagecoach.
Scottish Gas Networks (SGN) tweeted: “Our engineers are working to repair our gas network in Carnoustie following third party damage.
“For safety reasons, Taymouth Street and the nearby railway line have been closed.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Links Parade in Carnoustie is closed between Station Road and Ferrier Street due to a gas leak.
“Two residential properties and The Carnoustie Leisure Centre are being evacuated as a precaution.
“Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.”
