A child has been left “traumatised” after a teacher allegedly slammed a cupboard door on his finger which left him requiring surgery.

Carson Stage was rushed to A&E after a teacher at Heathryburn Primary School in Aberdeen “did not notice” the youngster’s hand in a resource cupboard and slammed it shut.

Doctors revealed the seven-year-old’s finger bone was chipped, and he was admitted into emergency surgery for a nail bed repair.

His parents have now revealed he is too “traumatised” to return to school and have blasted the teacher involved for a “lack of negligence”.

Mitch has launched legal action against the school.

His father, Mitch Stage, told STV News: “My son was in the ‘play pod’ for additional learning within the school. He was then lining up for lunch, and his hand was in the ‘classroom resources’ cupboard.

“The teacher apparently hadn’t noticed Carson nor his hand and slammed the cabinet door closed. We got called to the school, and was shocked to see the state for both my son and his finger.

“We immediately got him to A&E, he was seen straight away by doctors and again by X-ray.

“We got admitted into the surgical ward in preparation for Carson going down to theatre to be placed under general anaesthetic to carry out surgery.

“He is now traumatised to return to school when the time comes. He’s unable to carry out daily duties, such as getting dressed, and he may also require to get further surgery as he grows older.”

Mitch has revealed that he has now launched legal action against the school, and his solicitors are seeking compensation for his son’s injury.

He added: “The school has been informed of our steps taken, and that our solicitor will be in contact with them.

“They are looking into the negotiation settlement.

“I’m just extremely disappointed in the lack of negligence that has caused this injury to my son. I feel the teacher should have been more vigilant of the children around her.

“My son is in a traumatic state and it’s going to take a lot of encouragement to get him back to school.”

Heathryburn Primary School declined to comment on the incident.
