Tributes to Lily Douglas as teen dies following five-year cancer fight

Tributes are pouring in for teenage dancer Lily Douglas who has died aged 14 following a high-profile five–year battle with a rare form of cancer.

The popular Perth schoolgirl was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma – an aggressive cancer that affects bones and the tissue around bones – when she was just nine-years-old in 2017.

She made headlines over the way she courageously battled the disease and won the hearts of the nation with her infectious smile and personality.

She was also crowned as a Teenager of Courage at the Pride of Scotland awards and helped her team scoop top prize at a prestigious dance competition just last year.

On Sunday her heartbroken mother Jane Douglas confirmed Lily had “danced her way to Heaven”.

Posting on Facebook, she said: “My beautiful baby girl danced her way to heaven at 7.17 tonight her heart failed but she was on the sofa at home cuddled into me where she wanted to be. She will leave a massive hole in my heart, if love could have saved her she would have lived to a million years old , she is at peace and is finally in no more pain.

“Even with cancer lily lived her best life , and was loved by everyone, I hope I made her proud, I was her mum, we were a great team.”

The post has had over 6000 comments since it was posted late on Sunday night as tributes continue to pour in for the much-loved teenager.

Among them was Lisa Nisbet who wrote: “Lily, you were just too good for this world.” and Angie Halliday who said “Rest in peace gorgeous girl”.

Jane continued, saying: “It is not goodbye, she will be waiting on me it’s only time that will keep us apart she looks so beautiful and peaceful and even died with her beautiful blonde hair.

“Thank you all for your love and support, I could not have done this without you all.”
