The twin brother of a Tayside man who died in the 9/11 terror attacks has been killed in a hit and run in Bahrain.
Triathlete Allan Sword, originally from Dundee, was knocked off his bike while out cycling with friends on Friday, November 6.
The driver failed to stop but a man was later arrested and faces charges over the 48-year-old’s death.
The tragedy comes 19 years after Allan’s twin brother Derek was killed in the twin towers terror attack in New York.
Derek was in the World Trade Centre when the building was struck by a hijacked plane. His body was never found.
Allan had lived in Bahrain for the last 13 years where he had carved out a successful career with Bank ABC.
The firm’s chief executive Dr Khaled Kawan paid tribute to Allan, describing him as “such a fine soul, full of joy and life.”
He added: “I would like to remember Allan as a man of content and character. He treated everyone with kindness, with respect… a capacity to love everyone, to extend dignity to every one of his colleagues.
“The whole of Bank ABC and a great deal of the expat community in Bahrain today are in a deep grief and proud that Allan Sword was one of us.”
Allan was a key member of the Bahrain Ironman and Bahrain Triathlon communities.
He is survived by his wife Corinne and two grown-up children.
