Two youths have been arrested after a group targeted football fans outside a stadium in Forfar on Saturday.

The incident occurred after Forfar Athletic beat East Kilbride at Station Park in a League Two clash.

Following the match a group of youths, who did not attend the game, gathered outside with “the sole intent of instigating an incident”.

Police Officers intervened and apprehended two male youths, who will be reported to the youth justice authorities.

In a statement on social media Forfar Athletic said they were “extremely disappointed” by the incident and the club is working alongside police to identify the other members of the group.

It read: “Whether incidents occur inside or outside the ground it is entirely unacceptable that supporters who may be attending a match at Station Park may be subject to threatening and abusive behaviour which may give rise to concerns for their personal safety.

“This is not the type of environment that we wish to have at Station Park.”

Their opponents, East Kilbride, were left “extremely saddened” by the disturbance and believe the incident “put a number of people’s safety at risk”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We have a zero-tolerance approach to disorder at football matches. Any incidents will be thoroughly investigated and offenders reported to the appropriate authorities.”

Forfar Athletic ban under-16s from home games

This incident comes just 11 days after Forfar Athletic announced a ban on under-16s from attending its home matches without an adult following “unacceptable” behaviour.

The Loons said it had been left with “no other option” but to introduce strict measures due to incidents at previous games.

The Scottish League Two club said any under-16s will be refused entry for its three remaining home games, unless they are accompanied by a paying adult.

Additionally, anyone wearing a face covering will be asked to remove the item or be refused access to the ground.

The changes were confirmed in a statement after efforts were made to engage with the young fans.
