Two in hospital after primary school evacuated following 'chemical leak'

Officers said a cordon has been put in place and enquiries are ongoing.

Two people are in hospital after a primary school was evacuated following a potential “chemical leak” in Perth and Kinross.

Police confirmed Crieff Primary School and its nursery on Broich Road in the town has been evacuated as a precaution following reports of a chemical spill around 11.30am on Thursday.

Perth and Kinross Council said an adult working at the school took unwell and that parents have been contacted to pick up their children.

Hazmat teams were sent to the scene with the Scottish Ambulance Service confirming two people were taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

A Police Scotland statement: “Around 11.30am on Thursday, September 5, 2024, we were called to a report of a potential chemical leak within a school in Broich Road, Crieff.

“Emergency services are in attendance and the building has been evacuated as a precaution.

“A police cordon is in place and enquiries are ongoing.”

A statement from Perth and Kinross Council: “Crieff Primary School has been evacuated as a precaution after an adult working on the premises took unwell.

“Parents have been contacted by the school directly for pick-up as per normal arrangements.

“We are aware Scottish Ambulance and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are on site and we will work with them.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 11.26am on Thursday, September 5 to reports of a potential chemical leak at a school on Broich Road, Crieff.

“Operations Control mobilised one appliance and two specialist appliances to the scene.

“Crews remain on scene and are working to make the area safe.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 11.06am to attend an incident on Broich Road, Crieff.

“We dispatched multiple resources to the scene including four ambulances and three special operation response teams (SORT).

“Two patients have been transported to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.”
