Two officers in hospital after police car crashes into van during chase

Princes Street, between Canal Street and Victoria Street in Perth, remains closed due to a crash involving a police vehicle.

Two officers are in hospital after a police car crashed into a van during a pursuit in Perth.

On Tuesday, a police vehicle launched a pursuit of a black Volkswagen Golf after it was seen “driving erratically” in various areas of Perth.

The pursuit ended when the police vehicle was involved in a collision with a van in Princes Street, between Canal Street and Victoria Street, at around 2.35pm.

Two officers in the vehicle were taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment. Their current condition is unknown.

The Volkswagen Golf was later found abandoned nearby.

Princes Street remains closed whilst investigations continue and the general public are advised to avoid the area at this time.

Inspector Michelle Burns from Road Policing said: “We understand that the Volkswagen Golf has been seen driving erratically in various areas in Perth today and are appealing for any witnesses to get in touch.

“We would particularly like to hear from any motorists with dash-cam footage of the vehicle from today.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2004 of Tuesday, 23 April, 2024.”
