A vehicle has collided with a British Airways plane at Aberdeen Airport, leaving passengers delayed.

BA flight 1305 to London Heathrow was supposed to depart at 8.55am on Saturday.

Engineers are understood to be checking the aircraft for damage before passengers can safely depart.

Nicholas Harrison was due to fly to Rome, connecting through Heathrow. He told STV News: “Something struck the underside of the plane when they were bringing something towards it. They seem to think it’s a loading cart.

“The police came out and checked over the driver.

“We’ve been told we’re grounded until further notice because they don’t know the extent of the damage.

“They said they’re unsure how long it might be or even if the damage can be fixed today.

“They’ve just offered us some drinks vouchers. All the other flights are full today.

“Fortunately all of our connecting flights are aware of the situation here so we can be rebooked.

“I’ve flown a lot and I’ve never heard of anything like this before.”

It comes as snow and ice cause widespread travel disruption across much of Scotland.

Glasgow Airport suspended all flights on Saturday morning as teams worked to clear the runway.

Planes were able to resume take-off shortly after 10.30am.

The aircraft involved is an Airbus A320, which can hold up to 180 passengers, and only entered service for BA two years ago.

A British Airways spokesperson said: “We apologise to our customers for the delay and our teams are working hard to get everyone to where they need to be.”

A spokesperson for Aberdeen Airport’s owners, AGS, confirmed there had been an incident and that the airline was investigating.
