A probe is under way after a car was deliberately set on fire in a car park outside HMP Perth.
Emergency crews were called to the prison after the vehicle was set ablaze at around 12.53am on Thursday morning.
One fire crew was dispatched to the scene, and firefighters left after ensuring the area was safe.
Police said the fire is being treated as wilful, and an investigation into the circumstances are ongoing.
The owner of a nearby business wrote on social media that someone had “petrol bombed” the prison.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 12.53am on Thursday, July 6 to reports of a car on fire within the car park of HMP Perth.
“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting one car.
“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received report of car on fire in the car park at HMP Perth around 12.45am on Thursday, July 6.
“The fire was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no-one was injured.
“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
