A vet’s van stolen from a garage has been used in a “crime series” stretching across Angus and Dundee.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, thieves broke into a property on Rossie Island Road in Montrose.

At around 3.30am, they stole both a black BMW and the Golf Veternitary Practice Citroen Berlingo van but crashed the car nearby abandoning it.

The crime spree stretching over dozens of miles involved a blue Hyundai car with the registration SF64XST which police also believe had been stolen – it has since been recovered in Dundee.

At 3.35pm on Monday, fuel was stolen from the petrol station in Birkhill.

Sometime between 8pm that night and 9.30am on Tuesday, belongings were stolen from a unit on Millfield Road in Arbroath.

Around 2.30am on Tuesday, they tried to break into a locked vehicle on James Chalmers Road, Arbroath.

A couple of hours later, at 5am, there was an attempted housebreaking on Balgray Place in Dundee.

Between 2.10am and 4.45am on Wednesday, belongings were stolen from a vehicle parked in Peasiehill Road, Arbroath.

At sometime between Saturday and Tuesday, there was also a theft from a container in Fairmuir Street, Dundee.

Police said there may be other crimes that they have yet to link together.

The Hyundai was found on Wednesday morning but the vet’s van remains missing having last been spotted at the Tesco Extra on Kingsway, Dundee that same morning.

A spokesperson for Tayside police said: “We are following a number of lines of enquiry, but would still like to hear from anyone who may have information about these vehicles, particularly if you have seen the Hyundai between October 4 and October 6, or the van any time since it was stolen on October 5. Dashcam footage would be particularly welcome.

“If you have any information that could assist us, please call 101 or speak to any police officer. Also, information can be given anonymously through CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111. Our reference is incident number 0275 of October 5.”
