Watch as 'dangerous' driver rams stolen truck into police after chase in blizzard

Joshua Stewart, 21, ran the Ford Ranger into officers after being chased through the city

A man who rammed a stolen pickup truck into police after being chased through Aberdeen has been jailed.

Joshua Stewart, 21, drove the Ford Ranger dangerously through the city, pursued by officers during a blizzard on Thursday, January 8.

Police said the vehicle had been stolen earlier that day.

The pickup truck was traced in the beach area after it failed to stop around 9am, intentionally crashing into police vehicles and members of the police. No one was injured.

Road police attended, and following a short chase near Westhill, the truck reversed into a police car and “tactical contact” was used to bring it to a stop.

Stewart was arrested.

He was jailed for road traffic offences on Wednesday last week at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Stewart was also disqualified from driving for four years.

Inspector Steve Manson of the Road Policing Unit said: “Stewart’s actions displayed an utter disregard for other road users, choosing to drive a vehicle whilst disqualified, and he will now face the consequences.

“His manner of driving, even when officers were not following him, demonstrated a high risk for other road users.

“Road policing officers are trained in pursuit tactics in order to keep our roads safe.

“This case underlines the serious harm driving dangerously can have. Choosing to speed, drive recklessly, or ignore road laws shows a clear disregard for others.

“Our priority is to keep the public safe on the roads, and we will use all the tools at our disposal to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.”
