A woman has been found dead after a fire ripped through a flat in Angus.
Emergency crews were called after the blaze broke out a four-block tenement building in South Street in Forfar at around 3pm on Saturday.
Firefighters fought to extinguish the flames but the body of a 28-year-old woman was found inside the property.
Police Scotland said officers will work closely with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service as part of a joint investigation into the blaze.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At around 3.05pm on Saturday, October 2, police were called to a report of a fire at a property in South Street in Forfar.
“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire but sadly the body of a 28-year-old woman was recovered from the property.
“Her next of kin has been made aware.
“A joint investigation into the fire is ongoing with the SFRS and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
A SFRS spokesperson added: “We were alerted to a report of a fire at 2.51 pm on Saturday, October 2, at a four-block tenement in South Street, Forfar.
“Three appliances were immediately mobilised to the location and the fire was extinguished.
“Crews have now left the scene.”
