Woman reunited with ashes of 'much-loved' family dog after urn found on train

A pet owner has been reunited with the ashes of her “much-loved” dog months after losing them on a train.

British Transport Police appealed for information after a small urn, which was wrapped in artificial flowers and held by a brown teddy bear, was discovered on an LNER service.

It was thought that the urn was left on a service between London Kings Cross and Aberdeen within the last four months. It had been handed into lost property on the train’s arrival in Aberdeen.

An appeal was shared on social media after the British Transport Police feared it contained human ashes or remains.

In an update, officers said a woman had come forward, clarifying that the urn contained the ashes of her family dog.

Arrangements are now being made to return the urn and teddy bear, which the woman has owned since childhood.

A BTP spokesperson said: “We thank everyone for sharing our appeal.”
