Scottish Labour has pledged to “put more money in people’s pockets” ahead of the first televised debate of this year’s UK General Election campaign on STV.
On a visit to a community food pantry in Glasgow, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar discussed how the party will support people struggling with rising bills.
He pledged to cut energy bills through a green prosperity plan, boost people’s pay to a real living wage and tackle insecure work, deliver economic stability and economic growth, in order to keep taxes, inflation and mortgages as low as possible, and create jobs and opportunities, including 69,000 clean energy jobs in Scotland.
Sarwar said: “Right across Scotland people have been paying the price for Tory economic turmoil, with bills soaring while wages fall behind.
“It is time for the chaos to end – Scotland needs change.
“Labour will end the Tory-made cost of living crisis with our plans to make work pay, drive down energy bills, and deliver the economic stability our country desperately needs.
“In tonight’s debate I am not just arguing for myself – I will be fighting for change for every single person in Scotland struggling at the hands of this dysfunctional and incompetent Tory government.
“This election is a chance for change that we cannot afford to miss.
“The only way to make sure we get rid of this rotten Tory government and elect a government that will tackle the cost of living crisis is by voting Scottish Labour on July 4.”
