First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is expected to give an update on Scotland’s coronavirus lockdown measures when she addresses the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday
Mainland Scotland and the Isle of Skye are in lockdown for the month of January with a legal requirement to stay at home.
The lockdown is due to last until February 1 but the cabinet has been discussing whether it needs to be extended, with 2000 people currently being treated for coronavirus in Scotland’s hospitals.
Ministers are also reviewing whether schools can reopen to pupils at the beginning of next month.
But the First Minister said on Monday that she does not want to raise parents’ expectations ahead of the decision.
Following the imposition of Scotland’s second lockdown, caused by a spike in Covid-19 prevalence, the majority of pupils returned to online learning.
Only those deemed vulnerable and the children of key workers attending in-person classes.
Another 1429 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, but no more deaths have been recorded – although registration offices are closed at weekends.
Sturgeon also said 264,991 people across Scotland have now received their first dose of coronavirus vaccine.
