John Swinney to face FMQs after Autumn Budget confirms additional £3.4bn for Scotland

John Swinney will take questions from ministers the day after the Autumn Budget was confirmed.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves formally announced on Wednesday her plans for Scotland to receive an additional £3.4bn in Treasury funding.

Reeves said the additional cash – taking the total to £47.7bn – is the largest real-terms funding deal for Holyrood since devolution and must be used “wisely” by SNP ministers.

The announcement was described as a “step in the right direction” by finance secretary Shona Robison.

The Scottish Government announced its own budget in December, outlining £500m of cuts for the current financial year.

Swinney’s government could also see questions on accusations that they have treated police “with utter contempt” by offering them a payday below that provided to NHS staff.

David Kennedy, the general secretary of the Scottish Police Federation said the “final” pay offer made to police of a 4.75% rise is “not good enough”.

With the Scottish Government having been provided with extra cash as a result of the UK Budget, he appealed to ministers to “give our officers the pay deal they deserve”.
