Swinney to face FMQs as Grangemouth workers protest at Holyrood

Workers marched down the Royal Mile on Thursday in protest of the planned closure of the oil refinery next year.

John Swinney will face MSPs on Thursday as hundreds of Grangemouth workers protest outside the Scottish Government.

Workers marched down the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, calling for a halt to plans to shutter the oil refinery early next year.

The First Minister will likely take questions from MSPs over the just transition for workers at the site.

Meanwhile, police officers have staged a protest in Glasgow as pay talks hit “crisis point”.

The SPF, which represents 16,500 rank and file policemen and women, has accused upper management of “snubbing” Scotland’s police officers after a pay claim for a 5.5% increase for 2024/25 was rejected.

Talks involving the Scottish Government over the pay offer come as demands on policing have increased “significantly” in recent years, alongside a rise in violent attacks on officers.

FMQs will begin at noon on Thursday.
