John Swinney to face MSPs after Assisted Dying Bill defeated

The First Minister will take questions from MSPs at Holyrood from noon.

John Swinney will face MSPs in the chamber for First Minister’s Questions on Thursday, after a bid to legalise assisted dying in Scotland was defeated earlier this week.

In a historic late-night sitting at Holyrood on Tuesday, members voted against Liam McArthur’s Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill by 69 votes to 57.

The Bill sought to allow terminally ill adults with decision-making capacity to request medical assistance to die.

Swinney will likely face questions over the vote as First Minister’s Questions take place from noon at Holyrood.

Other issues which may be mentioned in the chamber include further funding announced to support new investment and job opportunities in Grangemouth, and the finance secretary’s calls for UK Government support in the wake of a devastating blaze in Glasgow city centre.
