Keir Starmer 'not sure he’d look good in a kilt' after offer of free tartan outfit

The Prime Minister was offered the gift if he agreed to wear it while facing questions in the Commons.

Keir Starmer has rejected a playful offer from a Scottish business to receive a luxury kilt to wear at Prime Minister’s Questions, saying “I’m not sure I’d look that good in one”.

The Prime Minister knocked back the gift from Edinburgh-based 21st Century Kilts which has dressed the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Vin Diesel and Robbie Williams.

The offer follows a row over the tens of thousands of pounds worth of gifts given to Starmer and his wife from prominent Labour donor and peer Lord Alli.

“I’m not sure I’d look that good in a kilt,” the Labour leader told STV News.

Asked if he could wear it to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2026, he replied: “I’m not sure how that’s going to work.”

And quizzed on whether the traditional Scottish menswear could be donned for a session of PMQs, he said: “Look, I don’t think that Prime Minister’s Questions needs me turning up in a kilt to give it any more noise and flavour than it’s already got.”
