Keir Starmer to face questions from opposition after return from recess

PMQs will be broadcast from the House of Commons at midday on Wednesday.

Sir Keir Starmer is set to face questions from opposition leaders on Wednesday after a three-week recess.

MPs returned to Parliament on Monday following party conferences, and they are gearing up for the 2025 Autumn Budget, which chancellor Rachel Reeves is scheduled to unveil on November 26.

Prime Minister’s Questions will come after Starmer sought to unite his party and the country behind him against Reform UK at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool.

He acknowledged that his Government made “difficult” choices at the budget last autumn, and he warned that “tough decisions will keep on coming”, but he did not specify what form those may take.

Reeves later ruled out VAT rises in the upcoming Autumn Budget, adding that Labour’s commitment to not increase VAT stood for “this parliament”.

Asked about other potential tax rises, the chancellor said: “I do think there’s a case for gambling firms to pay more.”

PMQs will be broadcast from the House of Commons at midday on Wednesday.
