Kemi Badenoch will go head-to-head with Keir Starmer for the first time since becoming the leader of the Conservative party.
Badenoch, the former business secretary, was declared the winner of the Tory leadership election on Saturday, defeating rival Robert Jenrick by 53,806 votes to 41,388.
In her first media appearance since winning, Badenoch said the UK is getting poorer and older and being “outcompeted” by other countries.
The Tory leader said her party would commit to reversing Labour’s decision to impose VAT on private schools if she came to power, describing it as a “tax on aspiration” that would not raise money.
The party leaders are expected to clash on issues including immigration, prisons, energy and the environment.
