Nicola Sturgeon is facing MSPs at First Minister’s Questions a day on from the Supreme Court ruling that Holyrood does not have the power to hold an independence referendum.
Judges at the UK’s highest court on Wednesday announced their verdict that legislating for a vote on the issue would be outside the competence of the Scottish Parliament.
The First Minister said that she was “disappointed”, but respected the ruling of the Court.
However, she also insisted that Scottish democracy would not be “denied”, as she said the SNP would seek to use the next general election as a de-facto referendum.
Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross welcomed the “clear and unequivocal” verdict delivered the judges.
He also criticised the Scottish Government for bringing the case forward, describing it as a “waste of time and money”.
Anas Sarwar, Scottish Labour leader, said that it was right for the Scottish Government to seek legal clarity on the issue.
But, he underlined the need to focus on the problems facing Scotland, including tackling rising bills and supporting the NHS.
