Boris Johnson is set to appear in person at the Scottish Conservative Party conference, despite Tory MSPs calling for him to resign.
His attendance could be seen as a sign rifts in the party are healing following frosty relations caused by the partygate scandal.
Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross said Johnson’s position as Prime Minister was “no longer tenable” after it was revealed he attended a gathering at Downing Street in May, 2020.
Ross was among MPs who wrote to the 1922 Committee chairman looking to trigger a no confidence vote in January.
The conference is being held in Aberdeen at the P&J Live on Friday, March 18 and Saturday, March 19.
The dates clash with the Conservative’s spring conference in Blackpool with the Prime Minister originally expected to address the Aberdeen crowd virtually.
However, due to the seriousness of the situation around the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Johnson is now expected to travel northwards for the event.
A Scottish Conservative spokesman: “We welcome the Prime Minister appearing in person to speak about the war in Ukraine at Scottish Conservative conference.”
