SNS GroupKeir Starmer has paid tribute to former Scottish first minister and Westminster MP Alex Salmond at Prime Ministers Questions.
The former first minister died after suffering a heart attack in North Macedonia on Saturday.
The 69-year-old was having lunch with other delegates, including Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh, chair of the Alba Party, when he suddenly fell back in his chair.
Emergency services were called and CPR was carried out, however, Salmond died.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the Alba party leader’s “lasting legacy” on Wednesday during the first PMQs since Salmond’s death.
“Alex Salmond was a monumental figure in Scottish and UK politics,” Starmer said.
“He leaves a lasting legacy and I know that the deepest condolences of the whole house are with Moira, his family and his loved ones.”
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to former Conservative MP David Amess as well as British writer and holocaust survivor Lily Ebert.
Former PM Rishi Sunak also paid tribute to Salmond and Ms Ebert, and thanked Starmer for his tribute to Amess.
Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Ed Davey, echoed the tributes to Salmond, Amess and Ms Ebert.
The Scottish Government is currently in talks with the Foreign Office over the repatriation of his body.
On Tuesday, the Scottish Football Association (SFA) held a minute’s applause before kick-off at the Scotland v Portugal match.
