The Prime Minister has used his closing speech at the Tory party conference to taunt Nicola Sturgeon.
Closing the Conservatives conference Rishi Sunak said politics was broken and promised to be the candidate for political change at the next general election, despite being in Government for years.
He then referenced the ongoing police investigation into the SNP’s finances.
Sunak said: “Nicola Sturgeon wanted to go down in the history books as the woman who broke up our country but it now looks like she may go down for very different reasons.”
Scotland did not feature significantly in the Prime Minister’s speech, but he did say he wanted to upgrade the A75 to boost links between Scotland and Northern Ireland.
He confirmed the HS2 project from Birmingham to Manchester had been axed but promised to use the £36bn of savings to fund hundreds of other transport schemes.
He also pledged to crack down on the sale of disposable vapes to children and said he would raise the legal age for buying tobacco every year to stop youngsters taking up smoking.
He said he would act to defend “common sense” values.
Sunak, who was introduced by wife Akshata Murty, told the conference in Manchester “change is difficult, particularly for those who disagree”.
But he said: “Where a consensus is false, we will challenge it. Where a vested interest is placing itself above the needs of the people, we will stop it.
“And where common sense is under attack from an organised assault we will defend it.”
