Scotland: Is your council tax going up in 2026 and by how much?STV News

Councils across Scotland have raised council tax by inflation-busting levels.

A nationwide freeze on the levy ended last April, which saw local authorities make the biggest increases in decades.

This year, further increases have been passed. The UK inflation rate remained at 3% in February, before the Iran war hit oil prices.

Every local authority has raised council tax by more than inflation.

With councils facing financial black holes of millions of pounds and rising service costs, increasing council tax is one way they can plug the gap.
