STV NewsA man accused of inventing parts of his CV has had a job offer from the Scottish Conservatives withdrawn.
In an email to staff last week, Craig Paterson was named as the party’s new head of research and would have been a senior aid to the Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross.
Paterson was said to have been a “senior political adviser” to Jim Murphy, the former Scottish Labour leader.
He was also described as “having once been a key part of Scottish Labour’s operations”.
However, Murphy responded that he had “never knowingly met this guy let alone employed him in any role, ever.”
The former Scottish secretary added: “A bizarre fantasy from the Scottish Tories”.
The story was first reported in the Times newspaper.
In a statement, a Scottish Conservative Party spokesman said: “We will no longer be hiring this person after new information came to light.”
