Police will take no further action after a Tory MSP called for “no more Buddhists” at Rangers following the sacking of Russell Martin.
Murdo Fraser, a supporter of the Ibrox club, celebrated Martin’s departure on X in a series of posts earlier this month.
The MSP for mid-Scotland and Fife made the comments, appearing to reference Martin, who is a vegan and had previously told The Guardian in 2018 that he supported the Green Party.
It read: “No more vegans, Buddhists or Green Party members please @RangersFC.”
The comments were criticised by some on social media as discriminatory and demonstrating “religious intolerance”.
At the time, a Green Party spokesperson accused Fraser of sending an “irresponsible message”.
Police Scotland said last month it was assessing the information provided regarding a post made online.
On Tuesday, officers confirmed there will be no further police action.
Fraser took to X to say: “In the least surprising news ever, Police Scotland have now confirmed that no law was broken in relation to my post on here on Russell Martin.
“They were never going to find otherwise. It is not – and never should be – a crime to make jokes about football.”
