Trainspotting star Ewan McGregor says he will back Scottish independence if IndyRef2 is held.
The Hollywood actor, who has also appeared as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels, has changed his stance after backing the union in 2014.
Citing Brexit as one of the main reasons for the decision, he said “enough is enough, I think it is probably time”.
The 49-year-old revealed his change of heart on the subject on the US talk show Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday.
He said: “I was always for keeping the union as I thought it worked, but I think it was after the Brexit vote when I changed my tune on it.
“Scotland has been voting for a government we haven’t been given for years. We are a very left voting country but we have been under Conservative rule all through my childhood and still today so I think really enough is enough.
“After the Brexit vote I was shooting Trainspotting 2 in Scotland, and the next day they were showing the map of the UK, with the areas that voted for Brexit in blue and the areas that voted to remain in yellow.
“The map was completely split in half, the whole of Scotland was yellow and the whole of England was blue, apart from a little patch around London.
“And I just thought that’s it, again, the people of Scotland wanted to remain in the EU and the English don’t so I just think we are going in different directions so I think probably it is time, I think it is time.
“And I also think that once Boris became Prime Minister the Scots were just like “we are out of here”.”
The SNP have set out plans to hold a referendum if they win a majority of seats in May’s Holyrood election.
Latest opinion polls show a majority of Scots now back independence over remaining in the UK.
