Tributes have been paid to a Labour councillor in Glasgow who has died suddenly at the age of 49.
Gary Gray, who represented Canal Ward, passed away on Sunday, February 13, the Glasgow Labour group announced.
He had been the representative for Canal Ward on Glasgow City Council, as well as being a member of the Labour group executive committee.
On Monday, the Glasgow Labour Group said their thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Gray, who they described as a “committed socialist” who loved being a councillor and representing his ward.
In a statement, they wrote: “It was with deep shock and sadness that we learned late yesterday of the sudden death of our colleague, Cllr Gary Gray.
“Our thoughts are with his family and all who loved him. Only days ago he was out campaigning in the community he was proud to represent.
“Canal Ward has lost a great champion and we have lost a much loved friend.”
Glasgow City Council leader Susan Aitken expressed her shock and sadness at the passing of Mr Gray.
She Tweeted: “Everyone in @SNPforGlasgow is shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of our Labour colleague Cllr Gary Gray.
“Gary was well known and liked across the Chamber and will be much missed. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family & @GlasgowLabour colleagues.”
Scotland’s health secretary Humza Yousaf also extended his sympathies to the family and friends of Mr Gray.
“What dreadfully sad news, my thoughts and sympathies with Cllr Gray’s family, friends, loved ones and community,” he said.
“Thinking of Labour colleagues who have lost a dear friend, indeed Glasgow has lost a dedicated servant too.”
