A baby alpaca born three weeks early was saved after an emergency plasma transfusion.
Buddy was delivered at Beirhope Alpacas, based in Kelso, in the early hours of Monday.
He was said to have been in “serious trouble”, having been born weighing just 4.2 kilos and unable to sit or stand.
It is believed that the extreme hot weather in Scotland influenced the early birth.
Following his arrival, an emergency vet was contacted and plasma sourced from Velvet Hall Alpacas.
Buddy was taken immediately to surgery where staff managed to complete a plasma transfusion, as well as helping him to drink milk.
The baby alpaca has been receiving care at Galedin Vets Gala and Kelso surgeries, as well as those at Velvet Hall Alpacas.
Vets at Beirhope are now looking after Buddy and his mum, Hattie.
Buddy is said to be getting stronger and can now sit up independently, with hopes he will soon be standing.
He is being fed every two hours day and night, with optimism that the bond will grow with his mum.
