Bank Holiday Monday is the warmest day of the year so far after 25.1C was recorded in Kinlochewe, in Scotland’s northwest highlands, the Met Office said.
This has surpassed the previous high for 2021, which was set on March 30 at Kew Gardens in south-west London, when the temperature hit 24.5C.
STV Weather presenter Philip Petrie said: “Well so far this afternoon we have recorded our warmest day of the year so far.
“It seems our summer is slowly starting to arrive. After a very unsettled and wet month it seems May is going out on a high.”
It hasn’t been all sunshine though as cold sea fog has put a dampener on other parts of Scotland.
Philip added: “Eastern coastal parts of the country have been seeing dull and grey skies thanks to pesky haar off the North Sea, and that looks set to continue over the next couple of days.
“This will keep temperatures here down a few degrees – the likes of Inverbervie recording highs of 8C while a few miles inland places like Aboyne were up to 12C warmer.
“The fine conditions are all thanks to high pressure that is dominating our weather.
“And that looks set to continue through Tuesday and Wednesday, with things turning a little unsettled overnight into Thursday as a band of showery rain moves in from the south.”
