An American bakery chain has shut down all its locations in Scotland just one year after its first store opening.
Cinnabon, which had stores in Glasgow Silverburn, Glasgow Braehead, Stirling’s Thistles Centre, and at The Centre in Livingston, announced the closures as part of an “ongoing evaluation of their portfolio”.
The bakery, famed for its popular icing-covered cinnamon rolls, was founded in Seattle in 1985 and is available worldwide.
The company confirmed on Wednesday that it has shut down all 12 of its UK stores.
A spokesperson said: “As part of an ongoing evaluation of their portfolio, EG on the Move has made the strategic decision to divest from their food service concepts to focus on other retail sectors, and as a result will be closing all Cinnabon UK locations.
“It’s important to note this decision only affects the UK sites operated by EG on the Move and does not reflect on the Cinnabon brand itself, which remains strong and supported by our team.
“We are actively working to refranchise the market to be able to delight consumers again with the Cinnabon brand, and we remain focused on enhancing customer experience across our brand portfolio and retail offerings.”
The news is a blow for the company’s Scottish fans who queued for hours last July to celebrate the chain’s first Scottish store opening in Livingston.
The American bakery offers freshly baked large and mini Bons, which come in a variety of flavours, including the original roll which is the Classic Cinnabon with Makara cinnamon and signature frosting, ChocoBon and Carmel PecanBon.
