Coastguard helicopter called out over concern for people in river

Emergency services including a Coastguard helicopter were called out due to concern for people in a river near Bridge of Allan.

The alarm was raised at Allan Water, Stirling, just after 2pm, with one man being taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital for treatment.

Locals posting on social media reported seeing the helicopter circling the area, with a number of emergency vehicles parked nearby.

The Coastguard confirmed a helicopter had been dispatched to the area but was later stood down.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.05pm on Thursday, August 7, we were called to Allan Water, near Allanvale and Fountain Road, Bridge of Allan, following a report of concern for people in the river.

“Emergency services are at the scene and inquiries are continuing.”

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said they were called at 2.11pm.

When fire crews arrived, she said there was one male casualty who had sustained injuries and was already out of the water.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.05pm on Thursday, 7 August, 2025, we were called to Allan Water near Allanvale and Fountain Road, Bridge of Allan following a report of concern for people in the water.

“Emergency services attended and carried out a search of the area.

“Following enquiries, everyone was traced safe and accounted for.

“One man was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital for treatment.”
