An elderly woman at a West Lothian care home has recited a Rabbie Burns-inspired poem about coronavirus to her fellow residents.
Maggie Burns was filmed reading the poem, ‘Tae a Virus’, at Heatherfield Care Home in Armadale.
A member of staff found the tongue-in-cheek version – written by Willie Sinclair and inspired by Burns’ ‘To a Mouse’ – on Facebook.
Maggie kept on correcting the staff member’s pronunciations so she was asked to read it herself.
The verses include lines such as:
“Just stay inside, the hoose, ye bide
Nae sneakin oot for strolls
Just check the lavvy every hoor
And stocktake your loo rolls”
Roz Smith, activity coordinator at the care home, gave the poem to Maggie to read.
She said: “Maggie loved the poem, she laughed and said it was ‘very witty’.”
