iStockA “technical issue” is impacting users of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp, Meta has said.
In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, Mark Zuckerberg’s global tech firm said: “We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps.
“We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.”
Monitoring site Downdetector, which tracks problems with websites and apps, shows a sharp spike in user-reported issues for Meta platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp starting around 6pm.
Users have reported being unable to send and receive messages, access posts or log in.
According to outage-tracking site Downdetector, over 25,000 people reported issues with Facebook and over 15,000 on Whatsapp.
Problems with the apps have been reported in the UK, parts of Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, and the US.
