Scotland is bracing for more freezing temperatures after two more weather warnings for ice were issued by the Met Office.

The majority of the country has experienced freezing temperatures this week, with multiple yellow weather warnings issued for snow and ice.

The north of the country, covering the Highlands, Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland and parts of Moray, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, have been worst affected, with snowy and icy conditions impacting travel on roads and public transport.

The A90 in Aberdeen was closed in both directions between Cleanhill roundabout and the Stonehaven roundabout on Thursday morning due to snow, with reports of many vehicles stuck.

Meanwhile multiple crashes were reported on the A9 by Traffic Scotland.

Around 100 schools have been closed while others announced delayed opening times, as many school buses are unable to run due to road conditions.

Meanwhile other parts of the country have been hit with freezing temperatures, with overhead wires damaged at Glasgow Central train station, impacting services in the Central Belt.

A yellow weather warning covering much of the north of Scotland is in place until 9pm on Thursday, bringing icy conditions and snowfall up to 5cm in lower levels and up to 20cm on higher ground.

However a new yellow weather warning for ice will come into force from 9pm on Thursday and will continue into Friday morning, which could see treacherous conditions on roads and heavy snowfall.

The alert covers much of northern Scotland, including Orkney and Shetland, the Highlands, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen and Moray.

A second yellow alert for ice will affect East Lothian and the Scottish Borders from midnight, continuing through to midday on Friday. Showers will mostly fall as rain, however some sleet and hail may fall. This may turn to icy patches, and motorists and pedestrians have been urged to take care.
