'I've stockpiled £250 worth of disposable single-use vapes'

Single-use vapes can no longer be sold as part of a UK Government crackdown on nicotine.

A woman has told STV News she’s stockpiled £250 worth of disposable vapes as a nationwide ban has come into effect.

The devices can no longer be sold as part of a UK Government crackdown on nicotine.

Rechargeable vapes are now the only type that are legal since the ban came into force on Sunday.

Ex-smoker Carla Buckingham said the ban is a “hard pill to swallow”. She started using vapes when she quit smoking cigarettes.

She has spent about £250 in recent weeks stockpiling her favourite brand of singe-use vapes in all of her favourite flavours.

Ms Buckingham agrees with the Scottish and UK governments that action is needed to help prevent young people from developing an addiction.

But she said there’s a “reason why she vapes”.

“Now that the ban is in place, it’s a hard pill to swallow for me,” she told STV News.

“I am an ex-smoker, and I feel like it’s been taken away from me as my right to be healthier, but there’s nothing we can do.

“I’ve spent about £250 over the last couple of weeks putting vapes aside and making sure I get the brand I like and the different flavours I like.

She added: “I know inevitably they will run out, but when they run out I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

Ms Buckingham said the ban “hasn’t done her any favours,” but she recognised that it is good for the environment.

“It’s not just about an individual enjoying something,” she said.
