Jet2 cancels flights between Scotland and Spain until July 25

Jet2 has cancelled flights between Scotland and Spain until late July after the Scottish Government decided not to lift quarantine restrictions for those arriving from the country.

The airline said it will recommence its flights and holiday programmes from Edinburgh and Glasgow airports to mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands on July 25.

On Wednesday, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon approved quarantine-free travel from more than 50 overseas destinations – but said the government could not “in good conscience” do so for Spain.

She added that was because of the “significantly higher prevalence” of Covid-19 there. It means those returning from Spain are still expected to self-isolate for 14 days.

A spokesman for Jet2 has since said: “Because of the travel restrictions that are still in place to Spain as a result of this week’s announcement by the Scottish Government, we have taken the decision to recommence our flights and holidays programmes from Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports to Mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands on July 25.”

Meanwhile, flights to Portugal and Cyprus will resume on August 1.

The airline said affected customers will be offered a refund credit note, a full cash refund, or the option to rebook with no admin fee if their flight or holiday is cancelled.

However, Jet2 said it will restart flights and holidays to other “popular hotspots” on July 15.

On Wednesday, Sturgeon said she hopes to add Spain, as well as Serbia, either in full or in part to the list of quarantine-free travel countries at the next review point on July 20.
