A man has been arrested in Scotland on suspicion of murder after a father was stabbed in London.

Police were called to reports of a stabbing in Rushey Green, Lewisham at 3.06am on Wednesday, October 15.

Sanchini Thompson, 27, was treated for stab wounds by the London Ambulance Service, but later died in hospital.

The Metropolitan Police said a 33-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday evening on suspicion of murdering Mr Thompson.

The man was to be transferred to custody in London on Wednesday, as the investigation continues.

Mr Thompson’s family said in a statement last week: “In loving memory of a son, a father, and a cherished friend, our hearts are heavy as we remember a man whose presence brightened every room he entered.

“At just 27, he was already a pillar of kindness, a devoted father to his beloved four-year-old daughter, and the heartbeat of his family.

“He gave freely of himself sharing his time, his laughter, to bring joy to others, always prioritising the happiness and well-being of those around him.

“His generosity knew no bounds, and his compassion touched friends, neighbours, and strangers alike. Words cannot fully capture the depth of our gratitude for him and the impact of his kindness on our lives.

“He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will remain with us in the love he shared and the memories we will carry forward.”

Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford, leading the investigation, said: “Our dedicated team of detectives have worked tirelessly to locate and arrest this suspect.

“The work doesn’t stop here. We will continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Sanchini as we strive to secure justice for him and his loved ones.”
