A man has been charged after a cyber attack saw terror messages displayed across screens at Scotland’s busiest train stations.

British Transport Police received multiple reports of a cyber security incident affecting Network Rail Wi-Fi services, provided by a third party, that displayed imagery “intended to incite religious hatred” on September 25, 2024.

Network Rail said all of the Wi-Fi systems across its 20 stations, including those at Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley, were impacted at the time.

Following an investigation, a man from Bromley, England, was charged with “inciting religious hatred” after being arrested at his home address.

John Andreas Wik, of Limes Road in Beckenham, has been charged with publishing or distributing written material intending to stir up religious hatred.

The 36-year-old is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on April 11.
